A Natural Setting for a New Build

The home was built on a bluff in a wooded ravine above a scenic river. The owners wanted the site design to blend with nature, not distract from it or the views. The result was a design that on the surface appears to be simple, but was built on a basis of careful analysis of the site opportunities and constraints, which varied greatly in each area.

A springtime show of flowering native dogwood and crab apple trees appear just before large drifts of white-flowering shrubs burst forth below them.

A soft path leads around to the large lawn area that overlooks the river.

In summer, the soft contrasts of varied greens is on display.

Decorative colorful plantings are on one corner of the crushed stone driveway at the front of the house.

This rustic stone-stair paths reflects the surrounding natural environment.

No fussy landscaping needed with this beautiful view

A simple, tapered stone wall lends order and focus to the surrounding woods, while holding back a sloped grade and a pathway draws the viewer to step beyond the garden wall.
